current fishing conditions for the South Platte River:
The South Platte River are currently at 613 cfs. With temperatures in the 60s this week, trout can be found in slower water and eddies. Later in the day, be sure to target the riffles! Trout are keying on Blue-Winged Olives (BWOs) (sizes 18-22), small midges (sizes 20-24), worms, and eggs throughout the day. Other effective patterns include Mercury midges, bling midges, Top Secret midges, Chocolate Thunders, RS2s, and various small beatis patterns. Scuds, worms, stoneflies, cranefly larvae, and brown and olive leeches are also great attractors. If you’re nymphing, consider using fluorocarbon tippet in 5-7X. Adjust depth frequently and utilize heavier split shot or larger tungsten head point flies to get down deep. Egg patterns and worms can also be effective. For topwater action, try no mercy midge or Matt’s midge. With the high flow this week, 3X and 4X tippet will serve you well. Caddis are also present.
Remember to adjust your techniques based on the specific conditions and the behavior of the fish. Tight lines!
