Fishing in bass tournaments is very involved, very expensive, but an extremely fun hobby to get involved in. There are many local bass fishing clubs across the country that will allow anybody to join. The world of bass fishing is an ever growing sport which allows you to compete for cash or just for fun. Here are some general tips and tricks you can do to improve your bass tournament results.

The Carolina Rig is one of the most versatile fish catching rigs available to fishermen. You can fish a Carolina Rig in a variety of ways, but usually it is used to target bass on flats and in deep water. The beauty of a Carolina Rig is that it allows you to fish deep water quickly with heavy weight with no effect to the fish. When a fish takes the bait it can run with the bait with no resistance from the sinker due to the line freely slipping through the hole of the sinker.

Mister ugly himself the carp is making it's way to being considered a sought after fish in the US. In England carp fishing has always been popular, however here in the US we've kinda shunned these monster suckers. This is the time of year in the northeast when bass fishermen all begin thinking about getting out on the water that first time after the ice vanishes from our favorite bass lake. Fishing in the very early spring can be difficult or can be excellent depending on if you locate the bass. Locating bass in the early spring is actually very easy to do.

Fishing now a days can often be tough due to the amount of fishing pressure that the fish have to endure. This is especially true in bass lakes around the US with tournaments and weekend anglers throwing everything under the sun at the bass, which makes them extremely shy to take lures. In these over fished lakes is where finesse fishing can be very effective.

A new popular way of targeting bass is by utilizing a finesse spinnerbait, which is simply just a smaller and lighter spinnerbait. This method is often best during the pre-spawn and early spring bass season. Often bass during these time periods are more lethargic and a finesse spinnerbait can be fished slower and has a smaller profile, which will often pick up more bites than a large spinnerbait.

My all time favorite bait to fish for bass and especially smallmouth bass is a tube. If I were only to take one lure to go bass fishing this would be my bait of choice. The tube is probably the most versatile bait to fish for smallmouth bass. This bait can be fished from top to bottom and you only need three colors to cover all the situations you will encounter when fishing for smallmouth bass in lakes and reservoirs.

Fly Fishing for bass can be an exciting way to fish for bass utilizing a wide range of flies including clousers, woolly buggers, crawfish imitations, and large streamers. Lets face it bass hit hard, fight hard, and like to attack large baits why wouldn't‚ we want to target them with a fly rod. Fly fishing for bass is can be done several ways, but often is best in streams chasing smallmouth bass with streamers and crawfish imitations. A smallmouth bass‚ primary food source is minnows and crawfish in streams and rivers so your presentation should always try to mimic these baits. When fishing in a lake for largemouth bass you will want to use flies that are weighted such as clousers, large weighted streamers or target them on top using poppers or deceiver flies.

Targeting bass under the ice is not something that many folks do, but during the winter months you are able to catch some beautiful Largemouth Bass while ice fishing. Catching bass in the middle of winter is much like finding bass in the summer months. The bass will move out and hang around weed lines and deeper drop offs. A trick to finding bass in the winter is to know where there was weed beds and weed lines in the fall, bass will relate to these weed lines to feed in the winter months.

Everybody has heard they are a good lure but how many of us have actually taken the plunge and learned to fish a jigging spoon. My day was several years ago during a bass buddy tournament on my home lake of Lake Raystown in Pennsylvania when I was fishing secondary points for bass and I noticed on my fish finder large schools of fish that were sitting in 20 feet of water suspended in the middle of the water column during a crisp day in October.

Finding bass in the summer can be difficult due to how bass will move to deeper water and often suspend and the sheer number of boats on a lake; however bass feed more often during the summertime. When do they feed one might ask the answer is nighttime.

For a lot of bass fisherman throughout the state the tournament bass fishing often begins directly after the spawn when fish will move off of their beds and begin to move out into the lake. During the spawn bass are located up and down the shores and in shallow bays spawning but as soon as the female is done spawning she will move off the bed and leave the smaller male there to protect the bed.

If I only had one lure for fishing different conditions from saltwater fishing to freshwater it would be the soft plastic jerk bait. This is one of the most versatile lures, which can be fished from the top of the water column to the bottom. You can fish it fast on top to often get a slamming reaction strike to fishing it slow to bring when fish are less aggressive.

Probably the most effective and most utilized way to catch bass by tournament anglers is to be using a texas rigged worm or tube. This rig will allow you to fish in heavy cover without getting snagged or tied up in the weeds. Bass often lay is some of the heaviest cover especially during the daylight hours to protect from light and to ambush their prey. To get to these bass nothing is better than a texas rigged worm or tube.

So many fishing lures so little time, but most bass lures are meant to catch fishermen and not fish. Yes they all will catch bass, but all lures can be broken down into three categories being top, middle, and bottom. Also all lures are meant to imitate something that the fish are feeding on from shad to crawfish. Other lures are meant to make a bass angry and trigger a reaction strike.
